Fall is a beautiful thing, and Texans might appreciate it more than most. After a long, hot, humid summer, fall brings a welcome respite from the heat—and it just makes you want to get outside and do things. In the spirit of getting outside and enjoying the beautiful days (not to mention the last few weeks of peace before a holiday season that, for many, is busy and nonstop), here is a collection of five things to do this fall in Wylie, Texas.

Spend the Day (or Evening) in Vibrant Downtown Wylie
There is lots happening in historic downtown Wylie this fall, from coffee tasting to a Taylor Swift-inspired shopping event to an Oktoberfest celebration. You can see all the things happening in September, October, and November here on the Discover Wylie events page. But if we had to pick out a few fall-inspired favorites to recommend, we’d probably start with Boo on Ballard. This year, Boo hits downtown on October 23rd for a family-friendly trick-or-treating event filled with candy, community, and a spooky good time.
If you’re planning an adults-only trip to town, you can enjoy a brewski on the patio of Glen Echo Brewing, or sip a glass of wine on Landon Winery’s front porch. Head down to Herman Marshall Whiskey Tasting Room for seating under the lights out back.
Looking for entertainment? Friday and Saturday nights are country music at the Wylie Opry. The Wylie Opry has been a Wylie institution for decades.

Wylie Urban Market Events
Looking to try something new, in a country setting at a beautiful local venue? Head over to the Wylie Urban Market for classes taught by local experts, food trucks, live music, and locally grown food and vendors. It’s not quite the holiday season yet, but you can knock out some holiday shopping while you’re there, too. Check out the calendar of events so you always know what’s going on.
While you’re there, pop into Texas Longhouse Meadery for some Wylie-made mead. You can enjoy a flight of seasonal flavors before walking to the market to shop.

Take a Walk on the Spooky Side: It’s Ghost Tours Time!
Is it really fall without something spooky? We don’t think so! Put the Wylie Whispers Downtown Ghost Tours on your radar for an evening of local history, and if you’re lucky, a ghost sighting or two! The Ghost Tours benefit the Wylie Historical Society, Wylie Parks & Recreation, and the Smith Public Library. Bring your friends and grab a bite to eat at a downtown restaurant before (or after) you hit the streets for this fun and easy walk through town with your own personal local ghost expert!

Touch Some Grass (and Take a Hike)
Doesn’t fall just make you want to go for a nice walk and admire the changing colors of the trees? While we don’t have a lot of color changing trees in Wylie, we certainly do have some—and many places to admire them from! There are several great places to go for a walk in Wylie, including a lovely hiking trail with lakefront access (although we don’t recommend going after it’s rained, as it gets pretty muddy).
We’re talking about the Trinity Trail North at the East Fork Trail Head. This 8-mile hike will take you through nature and give you some beautiful views of Lake Lavon. This trail is popular with walkers and horseback riders. It takes most people less than three hours to complete this out-and-back trail, but you can turn back at any time.
Prefer something flat and paved? Head to the Wylie Municipal Complex trails. Centrally located and easy to get to, they will give you about three miles of trails to walk. You can see the trail map here. Most of the trails here are paved, making it nice if you’re pushing a stroller or riding a bike.

Unleash the Fun at the Prairie Tails Dog Park
Got a dog? The Prairie Tails Dog Park is where it’s at. A social hub for dog owners, the dog park is split into several safely-fenced play areas for dogs (but say it with me: the little dogs go in the little dog section, and the big dogs go in the big dog section). You’ll find lots of friends for your pup to play with in the evening hours. The park is well-lit, making it a nice destination for pet parents who have to work later in the day.
