Don’t leave Fido at home! Wylie has always been a family-friendly place to live, and that extends to our four-legged family members, too. Between the dog park, local walking trails, and patio dining at dog-friendly establishments, there’s no reason to leave your pup at home. Here are five great places to take your dog in Wylie, Texas.

Prairie Tails Dog Park
Is your doggo looking for new friends? It’s time for a trip to the dog park. Prairie Tails Dog Park, located at 300 Country Club in Wylie, is a canine carnival of delights for the social dog (or the dog that needs to build his social skills). The park has three separate enclosures, although you will find that only two are usually open (one for large dogs over 30 pounds, and one for the smaller pups who weigh in under 30 pounds). The enclosures rotate throughout the year. Each enclosure is safely fenced and has tunnels, ramps, and lots of great things to smell for some doggy enrichment time. Park lights come on when it starts to get dark, and the humans can rest while the pups play at picnic tables and benches.
A few notes about the dog park, before you go:
- Please read the rules to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all dogs. Nobody likes it when a big, rambunctious dog enters the little dog park, and nobody likes it when owners don’t clean up after their pets.
- During the wet seasons, bring bug spray. Mosquitos!
- The large dog park has lots of trees, but the smaller parks lack natural shade and rely on a pavilion. Come early in the morning or later in the evening if you want shade (and more dog friends).
- While the park has bags to clean up after your dog, bring your own in case the provided bags are out.

Wylie Municipal Complex Trail
Leash up! Right next to the Prairie Tails Dog Park is the Wylie Municipal Complex Trail, a dog- and bike-friendly walking trail where many in the community come every day to get some exercise and fresh air. If your dog isn’t up for the dog park, or if you need some exercise, too (and who doesn’t!), skip the park and opt for a walk instead.
The trail is a flat, paved, one-and-a-half-mile loop that is suitable for all fitness levels (people and puppies). You can find plenty of parking near the library, at 300 Country Club, or on Brown St. If you need to exercise your dog and your kids, this is the place for you. This level trail is perfect for little ones learning to walk or ride a bike, or for anyone pushing a stroller.

Glen Echo Brewing in Historic Downtown Wylie
Like dogs…and beer? Glen Echo Brewing, located at 106 N. Birmingham St. in downtown Wylie, will be your new favorite spot. Not only does this local brewery brew its own craft beers, but it’s also got a fantastic, family-friendly patio that is perfect for your pooch (you’ll even find water bowls, in case your dog gets thirsty, too).
Not only are dogs welcome at Glen Echo Brewing, but they’re also celebrated. The brewery hosts popular Dachshund races during its Oktoberfest celebration. If it’s not Oktoberfest season, check out the calendar for weekend events, food trucks, and beer releases.

Pamper Your Pup with Shopping and a Spa Date
Every dog deserves a little pampering! And all dogs, maybe some more than others, need the occasional bath. If your dog is on the stinky side, or if your clean canine likes to stay clean, skip a sink or tub bath at home in favor of the convenient dog bathing stations at Pet Supplies Plus, located at 807 Woodbridge Pkwy. Rent a fully equipped dog bathing station to give your dog a luxurious bath. Once he’s all clean, let him peruse the aisles and pick out a favorite toy (or two, or four).
If washing your dog is a hassle (and we know it can be a hassle!), skip the labor and schedule an appointment at Pampered Pets Grooming Salon in downtown Wylie. Drop off your dog and return later that day for a squeaky clean pup. Whether it’s a haircut, a nail trim, or a deep clean, Pampered Pets will take care of your best four-legged friend.
Take a Stroll Along Lake Lavon
Wylie is situated between two lakes, but only one of them has easy lake access from town. Lake Lavon can be easily accessed from East Fork Park. The Trinity Trail on Lavon Lake is well-known to local equestrians and hikers (so keep that dog on a leash, please!). The Trinity Trail is 25 miles long and much of it hugs the shores of Lake Lavon, providing beautiful views and peaceful moments on the trail.
Avoid the trail when the weather is rainy, as it gets very muddy and can be hard to navigate. Bug spray and a hat are recommended for the summer months. Keep your eyes peeled—this trail is a popular spot for local wildlife, and in the spring, wildflowers.
