Founded in 1898, Wylie Insurance Agency has been helping Texans protect what matters most for more than 125 years. As Wylie’s oldest continuously operating business, the agency has built its reputation on trusted relationships, exceptional service, and a deep commitment to the community.

Today, owner John Yeager and his daughter, Kylie Reising, continue that legacy, serving clients across Texas while remaining firmly rooted in Wylie.

A Legacy That Began in 1898

Originally from nearby Nevada, Texas, Yeager spent a decade working in the insurance industry before purchasing Wylie Insurance Agency in 1973 from Rita and Truett Smith (you might recognize those names; the Smith Public Library is named after the couple). He became the agency’s sole owner in 1983, and has spent more than five decades helping it grow alongside the city.

Today, the agency offers auto, homeowners, life, health, and business insurance while maintaining the personal service that has defined it for generations. Yaeger says, “We have grown as the city has, allowing us to serve a much larger customer base of personal and business clients.”

Despite Wylie’s rapid growth, Yeager says one thing hasn’t changed. “It is still small enough that we know most of our clients on a personal basis.”

A Tradition of Service

For Yeager, serving the community has always been just as important as serving his clients. As one of the founding members of the Wylie Economic Development Corporation, he served on its board for over three decades (the longest tenure of any EDC board member in Texas history). “I was a founding member of the board and served for 32 years. I served as president, vice president, and treasurer.”

His community service also includes leadership with local nonprofit organizations, recognition by the Rotary Club, being named Citizen of the Year by the Wylie Area Chamber of Commerce in 1989, and having John Yeager Way dedicated in his honor.

That spirit of service continues with the next generation. Yeager’s daughter Kylie Reising serves as vice president of the agency and currently serves on the Wylie ISD Board of Trustees, while Yeager’s grandson, Bryson, plans to join the family business after college.

Looking Ahead

More than a century after opening its doors, Wylie Insurance Agency continues to focus on relationships, choice, and personalized service. “We have a perpetuation plan in place to continue to serve the community for many years.”

As an independent agency, Wylie Insurance Agency offers customers access to multiple insurance providers rather than a single carrier. “We don’t represent just a single company like some agents. We represent several companies, giving our customers access to a wide range of options with their insurance.”

Looking back on more than 50 years in Wylie, Yeager says it best: “I could not have chosen a better place to start a business, raise a family, and establish lasting relationships.”
