You don’t have to travel to Germany to celebrate Oktoberfest (and if you did, you’d need to go in September, anyway!). This year, downtown Wylie is hosting multiple Oktoberfest events that will appeal to both beer lovers as well as those who prefer to skip the brews.
The fun begins on Friday, October 2nd at Glen Echo Brewing’s Oktoberfest German Festival in downtown Wylie. The brewery has scheduled a three-day Oktoberfest extravaganza with everything from weinie dog races to stein holding contests to keg tapping. Sip on local-brewed (but German-inspired) beers made right here in Wylie, enjoy German food, and listen to live music all from the comfort of Glen Echo’s family- and dog-friendly venue located in the historic downtown Wylie.
The Glen Echo festivities carry through the weekend, so if you can’t make it on Friday night you have plenty of time on Saturday and Sunday to join the fun.
If you’d prefer to spend the weekend shopping but still want to celebrate Oktoberfest, the Wylie downtown merchant’s are hosting the first ever Oktoberfest Village Stroll on Saturday, October 3. This free event begins at noon and runs until 7pm. Start off by picking up a passport at any of the participating merchants. As you collect stamps from the different locations, sample tasty snacks and beverages, participate in games, enjoy some great deals, and take advantage of super fun photo opps around town. Once you’ve visited all the vendors, turn in your passport for a chance to win exciting prizes.
Once you’ve completed the stroll, head over to Glen Echo Brewing to keep the German-inspired fun going.
