Summer in Wylie is in full swing, and before you know it, school will be back in session! We’ve rounded up 10 fun, family-friendly activities to make the most of these sunny days. Grab the kids, your sunscreen, and maybe the dog, too—and get ready to create some unforgettable Wylie summer memories.

  1. Cool off at the splash pad. East Meadow Splash Pad is located at 1450 West Brown Street. The Community Park Splash Pad can be found at 800 Thomas Street. Both are open May through September from 8 am until 8 pm.
  2. Pick up your paddles and your favorite pal, and get your pickleball on at the park. Enjoy six pickleball courts at Community Park in Wylie.
  3. Take a hike! Or maybe a leisurely stroll is more your style. Either way, take advantage of Wylie’s best walking trails to get some exercise (and Vitamin D).
  4. Chill out with the local lions. That’s right…Wylie is home to a wide variety of big cats! You can visit them at In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue Educational Center. Be sure to check the website for hours.
  5. Stay cool and hit those summer reading goals at the Smith Public Library. Check out more than just books. The library offers several story times for kids of all ages plus a ton of fun, free programs that last all year long.
  6. Dogs need summer fun, too — take your pup to the dog park. Prairie Tails Dog Park is located at 300 Country Club and is open daily from 6 am until midnight.
  7. Take a trip to the lake. Lake Lavon is just minutes from downtown. Let the kids enjoy the great outdoors and then grab lunch at the marina. Lake Lavon is also a great camping and boating destination, and it’s right here in Wylie.
  8. Go to a movie. It’s hot outside, but the A/C is nice and cool at B&B Theatres Wylie! Not only will you find the latest releases playing, but the theater also offers fun summer events, like special movie experiences, and craft nights.
  9. Support local small business owners, get something to eat, and listen to live music at Wylie Urban Farm & Market. Check out the ongoing classes (with options for kids), shop local makers, and even pick up grass-fed-and-finished beef raised right here in Wylie.
  10. Have a picnic at Olde City Park. Pack up your favorite snacks (or buy lunch from a restaurant downtown) and enjoy the shade of the pavilion while the kids explore the park.

What are you most looking forward to doing this summer? Let us know!
