Long days and warm weather are finally here. Welcome to May! May is one of Wylie’s most action-packed months, with fun events like the Pedal Car Race and Taste of Wylie. Here’s a collection of May events in Wylie, Texas. You can also find out what is going on each week by following the Discover Wylie Facebook Page (look for a weekly roundup of local activities every Monday).

May starts off strong with the 2nd Annual Wylie Entrepreneur’s Expo on May 1st. Join local entrepreneurs for a chance to network and learn from local experts. Join Texas Therapeutic Riding Center for their 6th Anniversary Bourbon & Bridles Gala on May 4th at 4 PM. This fundraiser all goes to a good cause – it supports the therapeutic riding program, which is located here in Wylie and serves clients from all over the Metroplex. Wear your Derby best! You’ll enjoy dinner from Bold BBQ, an open bar, streaming of the Kentucky Derby, and an incredible silent auction.

On May 4th, Landon Winery is also hosting a Cinco de Mayo Sip & Shop. Taste premium Landon wines paired with delicious artisan cheese bites at each stop, as you shop your way through Historic Wylie’s charming boutiques. Get your ticket passport stamped at each stop to qualify for prizes! There will be Cinco de Mayo Savings for sippers at each stop!

Wylie is known throughout North Texas for the Wylie 500 Pedal Car Race, which will take place this year on May 5th starting at 1 PM. Kids ages 2-5 select a pedal car provided by local merchants and race 500 inches down Ballard Avenue in heats of seven in historic downtown Wylie. Pedal cars and a good time are supplied! Be sure to register now.

Taste of Wylie is back on May 6th. Purchase your ticket today to sample a variety of foods from 40+ local restaurants and food trucks while supporting area food pantries. This popular event is well worth attending. Tickets are limited; last year’s event sold out. Come hungry and leave full!

InSync Exotics is also hosting their annual overnight Visitor Camp Out on May 18th. Step into the wild as you spend an enchanting night surrounded by the sights and sounds of our majestic big cats. Listen to their roars and witness their nocturnal activities up close!

A lot is going on at Smith Public Library in May. You’ll need to check out their calendar of events for the whole list, but a few highlights are Family Story Time, 3D Printing Demonstrations, and book clubs for kids, tweens, teens, and adults!

Get your trot on at Texas Therapeutic Riding Center’s Fun Run on May 11th at Founders Park. This event includes a 5K and a 1 Mile Run run.

Hope’s Gate is hosting a sale on all items for the entirely of Small Business Week – check it out below!

Check out live music all month long at local venues in Downtown Wylie! The following locations have music most Friday and Saturday nights (you’ll want to check their social media or websites for updates and schedules):

  • Herman Marshall Whiskey Tasting Room
  • Bold BBQ Pit
  • Wylie Opry

Every Wednesday is Wine Down Wednesday at Landon Winery in historic Downtown Wylie.

Don’t forget to get outside and take advantage of local walking trails. The Trinity Trail North is a 5-mile hike by Lake Lavon. It gets really muddy after it rains, though, so you might wait until we’ve had a few dry days in a row before tackling this trail! Also, go early in the morning to avoid the heat.

Enjoy May, Wylie!
