For over three quarters of a century, Wylie Flower & Gift has been a mainstay in the community. Located in Historic Downtown Wylie, the business has seen the people in this town through life’s biggest milestones, from births to graduations to weddings, and everything in between. While the shop isn’t going anywhere, it is going through some changes. On New Year’s Day, 2025, Wylie Flower & Gift officially entered a new chapter when Destinie and David Lacy took ownership of the shop.
As Wylie’s oldest retail business, the flower shop has deep roots in the city. Originally opened in 1948, the business became part of Pamela Wells’ family in 1961 when her parents purchased the shop. Pam and her husband, Danny, later took over the business in 1994, guiding it through decades of growth, renovations, and change while preserving its strong community ties.
When it came time to find the next owners, community involvement mattered deeply to Pam. “There were many people interested, but none were interested in the community involvement, which was one of the requirements on my unwritten list,” she said. She knew she had found the right person for the job as soon as Destinie Lacy reached out to inquire about the shop.
An Air Force veteran whose time in the military was followed by a fast-paced career in advertising, Destinie was looking to slow down and do something different when she stumbled upon the flower shop. She was looking to put down roots in a community she believed in when happenstance led her to the flower shop (quite literally, as she discovered it was for sale while enjoying lunch with David at the Ballard Street Café).
It wasn’t long before the Lacys found themselves buying a business and moving to Wylie. For Destinie, continuing the legacy is about more than pretty floral arrangements (although you’ll find plenty of those here). “To me, it’s more than flowers—it’s about connection, care, and keeping that small-town spirit alive for future generations,” she said.
While the Lacys plan to refresh parts of the business, including its online presence, the heart of Wylie Flower & Gift remains the same: building relationships and serving the community through life’s most meaningful moments. After all, “when you think of flowers, think of ours!”
