Whenever we have friends come to town, we give them the royal “Wylie tour.” This includes our favorite restaurants, places to shop, and things to do around town. Today I’m going to share an itinerary for a weekend in Wylie. Texas.

Weekend Itinerary in Wylie

Check in to one of several cute Airbnbs in Downtown Wylie! The Ballard Bungalow is a perfect choice if it’s just going to be two of you. It’s within walking distance to everything Historic Downtown Wylie has to offer (including coffee in the morning and adult beverages in the evening).

Spend the rest of Friday in Downtown Wylie. You’ll want to start with lunch (right?). A couple of great BBQ joints are Bold BBQ Pit or Linke’s BBQ. Check out the live music schedule when you’re at Bold BBQ Pit – they often have live music on the weekends.

After lunch, spend the afternoon enjoying all the unique boutiques Wylie has to offer. If you have little kids, you’ll love Juzt Jaz Boutique and Texas Tushies. Another favorite for women’s clothing is Dear Sorella Boutique. And you might not know it from the outside, but Sun Lounge also has a bunch of cute women’s clothing and gift items inside! If you’re looking for fun gift items, be sure to pop into Trendz N Traditions.

Stay downtown for dinner. Frankie’s Casa is a popular Mexican restaurant with a full bar (we take everyone to Frankie’s when they visit). You can stay at Frankie’s for a nightcap or head down to Landon Winery for a glass of wine.

Saturday morning, start the day off right with some coffee and a pastry! You can find coffee and treats at Coffee at The Hub or Shoemaker & Hardt.

When in Wylie, you’ve got to visit In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue and Educational Center. This big cat sanctuary is just a short drive from Downtown and is a great place to spend a few hours. Be sure to check hours and make sure they’re open before you go (they are usually just open on the weekends).

After you’ve seen the lions and tigers and pumas (oh my!) grab lunch at Fish N’ Tails, Mijas Taqueria, Napoli’s, or Meteor Hamburgers.

From there, take a self-guided Art of Wylie tour. Thanks to a public art program, there are currently 12 art installations all across Wylie. You can read more about the art and get a map of the installations here.

Here are some other activities for your Saturday afternoon:

  • Take a hike at Lake Lavon from the East Fork Trail Head
  • Visit Lake Lavon and rent a boat from the Easy Fork Harbor Marina
  • Eat something sweet – grab a treat at Say it with Sugar or the Panaderia la Esperanza, both located downtown
Mijas Taqueria

Enjoy wine tasting and dinner at Landon Winery on Saturday night! You can order in food from local restaurants (Villa Vinci is a favorite), or enjoy a giant cheese board (The Texan is my recommendation, but it’s a lot of food!).

Sunday morning, wrap up your trip with a great diner breakfast at the Ballard Street Cafe (everything is good, but the pancakes are extra delicious!).
